ATLANTA – The Senate Committee on Assignments has appointed Senator Nancy Schaefer (R-Turnerville) as a member of the Appropriations Committee.

Following is a statement from Senator Schaefer about the appointment:

“I am so honored to be appointed to the State Senate Appropriations Committee. This position will allow me to be a more effective leader both for the state of Georgia and for my constituents in the 50th Senate District. As a fiscal conservative, I am dedicated to spending the taxpayer’s dollar wisely while remaining committed to the needs of Georgia’s citizens.”

Arts - Schaefer Name to Committee

State Sen. Nancy Schaefer (R-Turnerville) will serve on the Senate Grassroots Arts Program Study Committee to determine how to best fund arts activities across the state, to enhance community life and provide valuable enrichment to the state’s students through various arts programs.

”Over the years, a number of issues and concerns related to the success of an arts grant program have been raised,” Sen. Schaefer said. “We need to look at the lack of an arts infrastructure, particularly in the rural parts of the state, and we need to look t the equitable funding among Georgia’s 159 counties. The arts are important, particularly to our young people. It is incumbent upon us to give all of our citizens the ability to experience music, ballet, opera, theatre, and art exhibits such s paintings, prints, and sculptures.”

The Senate Committee on Assignments, composed of Senate President Pro Tempore Eric Johnson (R-Savannah), Senate Majority Leader Tommie Williams (R-Lyons) and Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor (D), appointed Sen. Schafer to the study committee.
